A children's resource on UK riots, Islamophobia and racism
The current events happening all over the UK in have left the Muslim community and other minority communities feeling overwhelmed with fear, injustice and uncertainty. And if we, as adults feel that way, imagine the emotions of our children.
Many children will have overheard their adults discussing the riots and Islamophobia, or horrendous attacks on innocent members of people of colour. They may have seen it on the news, or heard about it from a friend. Worse still, they may have witnessed something first-hand. These children, will most certainly have anxieties around the situation and worry about how the riots may affect them and their families. Muslim children in particular are questioning why there is so much hate towards Muslims.
It's difficult to navigate these conversations with our children in a tactful manner which doesn't worry them further. We've put together a free PDF resource for parents, guardians and teachers to share with children from eight years. This resource on the UK riots, Islamophobia and racism is written specially for children, in the voice of a nine year old British Muslim boy.
